I have read that the adrenal gland is important for how one body processes food and reacts to exercise, but this seems to not be well researched of understood in medical science. What is the role of the adrenal gland in metabolic processes and does adrenal fatigue really exist?

For people who are over 50 what should be the proportion of exercise versus dieting to low some tonnage and maintain it?
I hear various suggestions about this, some state reduce the consumption, other state it is what one eat not how much, other state without exercise and lots of it, one cannot lose and maintain the proper weight.
